Oceans for All
There’s no overlooking the mounting support for environmental awareness and conservation in Thailand. Many resorts, restaurants, and other businesses are boasting about their paper straws, water conservation practices, and composting and recycling programmes. Every little bit helps, however, the majority of these efforts are just “green washing” or making a big deal of a small effort for marketing purposes.
Thankfully there are organisations whose efforts are geared towards making tangible, substantial, and lasting positive impacts. Based in Boat Lagoon Marina in Phuket, Oceans For All is a non-profit organisation that has made it its mission to bring about these changes. They are implementing a multi-faceted approach beginning with the crucial education of the youth about the big problems that plague marine environments such as overfishing, climate change, pollution, and tourism impacts.
Oceans For All is keenly aware that to acknowledge these issues and bring about change, they must collaborate and integrate with Phuket’s tourism industry. Developing solutions that reward participation economically are crucial while evolving Phuket’s reputation to be one which treasures and protects the marine environment it depends on so heavily. oceansforallfoundation.org, +66 (0) 92 197 9338
