Stayed: Twin Palms Phuket

Phuket’s Twin Palms Resort has become something of local celebrity, having broken free from the clichés of a cookie-cutter resort by innovating to bring its guests something a little extra special. This is mainly thanks to its layout designed by Martin Pallero’s Singapore-based Tierra design.
Guests enter its peaked lobby bordered by water features, which first feels like you’ve chanced upon an inner sanctum. But venture a little further and it’s as if you’ve stumbled into a secret garden.
When you get to the heart of Twin Palms, you find a 1,600-square metre free-form swimming pool and lagoon snaking its way to the edge of 15 rooms on the ground floor. Paths winding through lush vegetation also find their way to the resort’s 97 rooms, suits and penthouses.
The rooms on offer vary in size from a generous 51sqm to a gargantuan 437 sqm. The décor is simple yet tasteful in modern-contemporary style with traditional Siamese touches. You will find every feature that is characteristic of a five-star resort, from super comfortable beds and deliciously soft linens to big flatscreen televisions and Bose sound systems. Every room has a terrace where you can chill out on pillowy soft couches and protect your privacy with a retractable screen.
A 200-metre walk across the road lies Surin Beach, which until very recently had been encroached upon by local businesses. But now the land has been reclaimed and offers wide expanses of sand sea with many shady trees.
The resort also serves up several dining options, including an all-day restaurant, poolside snacks and 24-hour room service. If you’re looking to venture outside the hotel, there are many shopping and dining options available within walking distance. The resort has plenty to keep you busy though, including a spa, fitness centre, library and a boutique. The concierge is also always at hand to guide you if you’re looking for something off the beaten track.
No exploration of Twin Palms is complete without a visit to the Catch Beach Club. Located on nearby Bang Tao Beach, Catch is considered as much of an institution as this resort. it has long been seen as the place to be in Phuket, with international DJs and glitzy late-night parties. Now Catch Beach Club also has a cousin, the HQ Beach Lounge on Kamala Beach. The best part is Twin Palms offers free transportation to both of these clubs on a regular basis.
Just like the scores of guests who come back to Twin Palms every year, you too may find yourself longing to return after your stay here.
