There are times when we can do without complexities, times when simplicity prevails and the craving for more dwindles to a soothing satisfaction. Inspired by the simplicity of top-quality fare, breath-taking views and impeccable service, The Cliff has distilled the subtle complexities of a successful restaurant into a seamless dining experience.
Let’s start with the location – nestled on a steep cliff between Lamai and Chaweng beaches, The Cliff has been offering spectacular views of the clear waters surrounding Cape Thong Khrok and Silver Beach for 15 years.
But along with stunning scenery, it has also built a reputation as a great place to stop by for food. The Cliff’s menu covers Mediterranean, Italian and other Continental fare as well as the stuff that a surf-and-turf lover’s dreams are made of. Its seafood platter overflows with the daily bounty delivered by local fishermen topped up by succulent saltwater specialties from across the globe, ranging from mussels flown in from New Zealand to live Atlantic lobster and King Crab.
Since we were by the seaside, it only made sense to start our meal with a seafood platter. The oyster Rockefeller were to die for, for just the right amount of time – a seemingly impossible task for many other restaurants.
Then came the turf. The Cliff certainly doesn’t mess around when it comes to selecting their terrain-based offerings. The beef comes from an Australian supplier known for delivering the very best, while their lamb cuts once grazed in the land of sheep – New Zealand. All the meat is flown in fresh and never frozen – something you can tell from the taste.
The Cliff’s focus on freshness also shows in the vegetables they serve – all bought from local organic growers and supplied daily. The new picked flavour sings in the delicious button mushrooms and fondant potatoes that accompany the outrageously exquisite steaks. The ribeye is especially tasty and chargrilled to perfection, with every mouthful an explosion on the taste buds rendered by its tender, juicy, marbled goodness.
