Tasted: Dream Beach Club
A swanky beach club in a faraway exotic land that hosts internationally renowned DJs, sun-drenched pool parties and late-night wildness is certainly a dream come true for many. Add to that a superb variety of international fare complemented with tongue-teasing cocktails and you have a recipe for heaven on earth.
Dream Beach Club lays on an unmatched spread for Sunday brunch, which will have you wondering where to start. The chef, with a solid track record of running kitchens in well-known venues in Phuket, has created a United Nations of a menu for the rest of the week too – offering everything from Vietnamese delicacies to Mexican favourites, as well as the five-star fare of sushi, salad, burgers, pizza, pasta, seafood, steaks and, of course, a handful of classic Thai dishes.
The sushi spider roll, a personal favourite, did not disappoint. The soft-shell crab crisped to perfection, teamed with crunchy cucumber, sweet mango, tangy mayonnaise and Tobiko or flying-fish roe, wrapped with fragrant sushi rice, draws sighs of pleasure from adventurous diners. Dip in wasabi-spiked soy sauce and slurp it up.
Another dish with power to inspire moans of delight is the Valencia seafood paella, a rich and glistening concoction of Arroz Redondo or round short-grain rice, spiked with rosemary and saffron. This version of the Spanish speciality is indeed special, as the chef doesn’t skimp on spices and loads it up with succulent prawns, tender squid and fresh mussels.
Meat lovers mustn’t miss out on the supremely juicy rack of lamb encrusted with a pesto-like mix of herbs served with green pea puree, garlic confit, baby carrots and red-wine jus – it’s simply fantastic.
To tease your tongue between mouthfuls, try one of the creative cocktails. Our favourite is the guavarita – a margarita made with guava juice, tequila, triple sec, lemongrass syrup, melon syrup, lime juice served in glass rimmed with zingy chilli salt.
Don’t worry about the calories – you can burn them all off swimming and dancing the day and night away. And if you get peckish again, there will always be a steady flow of delicacies heading your way.
