A Feast of Faith
Thailand | 10-18 Oct 2026
Bright yellow flags fluttering outside restaurants and market stalls signal the return of Thailand’s annual Vegetarian Festival. Rooted in Chinese traditions honouring the Nine Emperor Gods, this nine-day festival encourages food lovers to swap meat for a plant-based diet grounded in compassion and self-discipline. While Phuket grabs the global spotlight with its dramatic street processions and rituals, the festival spreads nationwide, from Bangkok’s bustling Chinatown to Chinese communities in Trang, Krabi and Chiang Mai. Visitors can savour delicious jay (vegan) dishes prepared without meat, dairy or pungent aromatics like garlic and onions. Far more than a nationwide banquet, it offers delicious insights into the connection between faith, food and culture.
