Just twice a year, Angkor Wat becomes a canvas for one of Cambodia’s most breathtaking natural spectacles. During the spring and autumn solar equinoxes, the rising sun aligns precisely with the temple’s central spire, bathing the ancient monument in a brilliant golden glow. Usually occurring in March and September, these rare events highlight the extraordinary architectural, mathematitical and astronomical genius of the Khmer Empire (802-1431 CE). As dawn breaks, visitors gather along the causeway to watch the sunlight flflood the iconic sanctuary — a profound moment when nature, spirituality and history light up this UNESCO World Heritage site.
