A collision of modern sports and ancient heritage, the Khmer Empire Marathon remains one of the most anticipated running events on the Southeast Asian calendar. Held in August this year, the unique running event – the ninth instalment thus far – will see participants tackling a course that winds through the World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat.

Runners can choose from 3, 10, 21 and 42-kilometre routes, treading a thousand-year-old path that skirts some 40 iconic temple ruins. The course also passes through Angkor’s preserved forestland, beautiful villages and verdant rice fields.
