Bangsaen Grand Prix: The Beachside Racing Festival
Chonburi
Every first weekend of July, the sleepy seaside town of Bangsaen transforms into a world-class motor-racing circuit as sleek machines rev up for the Bangsaen Grand Prix. Thailand Super Series is adding more international categories and celebrations this year to mark the 20th anniversary of the FlA-certified event.
The spectacular 3.7-kilometre street circuit is notoriously challenging, with a beachside straight, tricky curves through the town and a climb up scenic Khao Sam Muk Hill. It also features a legendary uphill hairpin bend offering some of the best views in world motorsport. As the only street circuit in Thailand with FIA Grade 3 certification, internal safety and technical standards come guaranteed.
Grandstands along the beach are free to the public and offer up-close action. Traffic gets congested over race week when many roads are rerouted, so visitors are advised to arrive early in the morning or check in to a local hotel (advance booking is necessary as rooms are snapped up fast).
Races usually run from 8am to 5pm. July 1-5, Bangsaen Street Circuit, Mueang Chon Buri district, Chon Buri; www.thailandsuperseries.net
