Bangkok Airways Powers up with Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Bangkok Airways is using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on all its commercial flights from July 1, under the “Low Carbon Skies by Bangkok Airways” campaign. The initiative is designed to significantly reduce the airline’s carbon footprint and pave the way for a more environmentally responsible aviation industry in Thailand.

Bangkok Airways President Captain Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth described the adoption of SAF as a “pivotal milestone” in the airline’s transition towards sustainability, in line with the global aviation sector’s goal of achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions.

Following last year’s successful trial on the Samui-Bangkok route, the airline has expanded the use of SAF-blended fuel to flights serving Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Luang Prabang and the Maldives. The current blend, of 1% SAF with traditional Jet A-1 fuel, cuts emissions by an average of 128 kilograms of carbon dioxide per flight.

As a leading regional carrier, Bangkok Airways remains committed to exceptional service while staying mindful of its environmental impact. Its goal of full sustainability is rooted in ESG (environmental, social and governance) principles across all operations. These efforts include climate action planning, efficient resource use, waste management and the adoption of alternative energy sources.

The airline has undertaken detailed studies of fuel efficiency, organisation-wide carbon footprint reporting (Scopes 1-3), and enhanced waste separation and upcycling programmes that transform operational waste into value-added products.

Bangkok Airways also actively involves stakeholders in eco- friendly initiatives, such as its long-running “Love Earth, Save Earth” project, now in its eighth year, which focuses on planting coconut trees to support Koh Samui’s ecosystem.

Through these measures, Bangkok Airways is taking meaningful steps towards sustainable growth – ensuring every journey it offers is not only memorable but also mindful of the planet.

สายการบินบางกอกแอร์เวย์ส ขับเคลื่อนแคมเปญ Low Carbon Skies by Bangkok Airways มุ่งลดปริมาณการปล่อยคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์จากการดำเนินธุรกิจประกาศนำเชื้อเพลิงอากาศยานแบบยั่งยืนหรือ SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) มาใช้ในเที่ยวบินเชิงพาณิชย์อย่างเป็นทางการ ผลักดันอุตสาหกรรมการบินสีเขียวของไทย และวางรากฐานสำคัญสู่การพัฒนาการบินที่สมดุลกับสิ่งแวดล้อมในอนาคต เริ่มตั้งแต่ 1 กรกฎาคม 2568 ที่ผ่านมา

กัปตันพุฒิพงศ์ ปราสาททองโอสถ กรรมการผู้อำนวยการใหญ่ บริษัท การบินกรุงเทพ จำกัด (มหาชน) กล่าวว่า การนำเชื้อเพลิง SAF มาใช้ในเที่ยวบินเชิงพาณิชย์อย่างเป็นทางการ ถือเป็นก้าวสำคัญของบางกอกแอร์เวย์สในการเปลี่ยนผ่านสู่อนาคตการบินที่เป็นมิตรกับสิ่งแวดล้อมสอดคล้องกับเป้าหมายการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกสุทธิเป็นศูนย์ (Net Zero Carbon Emissions) ซึ่งเป็นหัวใจสำคัญของนโยบายด้านความยั่งยืนในภาคการบินจากปี 2567 ที่ผ่านมา สายการบินฯ ได้นำเชื้อเพลิง SAF มาใช้ในเที่ยวบินนำร่องเส้นทางสมุย-กรุงเทพ และในปีนี้จะเริ่มนำ SAF มาใช้ในเที่ยวบินเชิงพาณิชย์จากกรุงเทพ (สุวรรณภูมิ) สู่จุดหมายปลายทางระหว่างประเทศ ได้แก่ พนมเปญ เสียมเรียบ หลวงพระบาง และมังดีฟส์

ทั้งนี้ เชื้อเพลิงที่นำมาใช้จะเป็นเชื้อเพลิง SAF ในสัดส่วน 1% ผสมกับเชื้อเพลิง Jet A-1 สัดส่วน 99% ซึ่งสามารถลดปริมาณการปล่อยก๊าซคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์เฉลี่ยประมาณ 128 กิโลกรัมคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์ต่อเที่ยวบิน

บางกอกแอร์เวย์ส มุ่งมั่นการพัฒนาสู่เป้าหมาย “สายการบินยั่งยืน” โดยยึดหลักแนวคิด ESG ครอบคลุมทุกกระบวนการดำเนินธุรกิจอย่างต่อเนื่อง ด้วยความรับผิดชอบใน 3 ด้าน ได้แก่ สิ่งแวดล้อม สังคม และบรรษัทภิบาล โดยในด้านสิ่งแวดล้อมให้ความสำคัญต่อการจัดการด้านการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศ การจัดการของเสีย การใช้ทรัพยากรอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพและพลังงานทางเลือก โดยมีการศึกษามาตรการด้านการใช้เชื้อเพลิงอากาศยานอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพให้ครอบคลุมทุกมิติ การจัดทำรายงานคอร์บอนฟุตพรินต์ขององค์กร (ขอบเขตที่ 1-3) การเพิ่มประเภทถังคัดแยกขยะ การขยายผลการอัพไซคลิ่งของเสียภายในกระบวนการดำเนินธุรกิจเป็นผลิตภัณฑ์ที่มีคุณค่ากับสังคมและสิ่งแวดล้อม การส่งเสริมให้ผู้มีส่วนได้เสียมีส่วนร่วมกับบริการหรือกิจกรรมที่เป็นมิตรต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม โครงการ Love Earth, Save Earth ปลูกมะพร้าวเพื่อเกาะสมุย ปีที่ 8 เป็นต้น
