Extending Love to the Sea: Bangkok Airways Marine Meadow on Samui
Bangkok Airways’ “Blue Volunteers” recently joined a seagrass planting initiative on Koh Samui, reinforcing the airline’s ongoing commitment to protecting local ecosystems and advancing sustainability.
Organised in partnership with the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources’ Marine and Coastal Resources Research Centre, the project aims to rehabilitate the marine environment and ensure the long-term fertility of coastal resources. During the event, the Blue Volunteers planted more than 13,000 seagrass shoots across 10 rai (4 acres) of the Samui coastline, restoring the beds to their natural abundance. Seagrass serves as a vital pillar of marine ecosystems, providing food and habitat for marine life, acting as a nursery ground for juvenile species, improving seawater quality and enhancing the capacity to absorb carbon dioxide, a key mechanism in mitigating the impacts of climate change.
The project’s opening ceremony was presided over by Koh Samui District Chief Mr. Amorn Chumchuay and attended by Senior Deputy District Chief Mr. Sutthiphong Thongruang. Serving as the keynote speaker, Mr. Sompong Bantiwiwatkul, Senior Fisheries Technical Officer at the Marine and Coastal Resources Research and Development Centre, shared insights on seagrass ecosystem restoration with over 60 participants from government agencies, private sector organisations, and local communities.
Beyond restoring these vital underwater meadows, the seagrass planting initiative reflects Bangkok Airways’ commitment to creating sustainable value to local communities and the environment across its key strategic destinations, including Koh Samui, under its campaign slogan “Extending Love to the Sea”. The airline remains dedicated to driving long-term environmental initiatives, ensuring that every flight and every journey contributes to a more sustainable society and planet.
บริษัท การบินกรุงเทพ จำกัด (มหาชน) เดินหน้าขับเคลื่อนองค์กรสู่ความยั่งยืนอย่างเป็นรูปธรรม โดยส่งพนักงานจิตอาสา “Blue Volunteers” เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมปลูกหญ้าทะเลภายใต้โครงการฟื้นฟูระบบนิเวศแหล่งหญ้าทะเล ที่จัดขึ้นโดยศูนย์วิจัยทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่งอ่าวไทยตอนกลาง กรมทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่ง ณ เกาะสมุย จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี เพื่อฟื้นฟูและสร้างความสมดุลระบบนิเวศทางทะเลและชายฝั่ง
กิจกรรมดังกล่าวมุ่งฟื้นฟูแหล่งหญ้าทะลให้กลับคืนสู่ความอุดมสมบูรณ์ ผ่านการปลูกพันธุ์กล้าหญ้าคาทะเลจำนวนกว่า 13,000 ต้น ครอบคลุมพื้นที่ชายฝั่งทะเลเกาะสมุยกว่า 10 ไร่ ซึ่งหญ้าทะเลถือเป็นปราการทางธรรมชาติที่สำคัญของระบบนิเวศทางทะเล ทำหน้าที่เป็นแหล่งอาหารและที่อยู่อาศัยของสัตว์น้ำ แหล่งอนุบาลสัตว์น้ำวัยอ่อน ช่วยบำบัดคุณภาพน้ำทะเล ตลอดจนเพิ่มศักยภาพในการดูดซับก๊าซคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์ อันเป็นกลไกสำคัญในการลดผลกระทบจากการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศ
ในพิธีเปิดโครงการ ได้รับเกียรติจาก นายอมร ชุมช่วย นายอำเภอเกาะสมุย จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี เป็นประธาน พร้อมด้วยนายสุทธิพงษ์ ทองเรือง ปลัดอาวุโสอำเภอเกาะสมุย เข้าร่วมเป็นเกียรติในงาน โดยมีนายสมพงศ์ บันติวิวัฒน์กุล เจ้าพนักงานประมงอาวุโส หัวหน้ากลุ่มงานวิจัยหญ้าทะเล เป็นวิทยากรถ่ายทอดองค์ความรู้ด้านการฟื้นฟูแหล่งหญ้าทะเลแก่ผู้เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมจากหน่วยงานภาครัฐ ภาคเอกชน และชุมชนในพื้นที่รวมกว่า 60 คน
กิจกรรมปลูกหญ้าทะเลครั้งนี้ไม่เพียงช่วยเพิ่มพื้นที่สีเขียวใต้ท้องทะเล หากยังสะท้อนเจตนารมณ์อันแน่วแน่ของบางกอกแอร์เวย์สในการ “ส่งต่อความรักสู่ผืนทะเล” เพื่อร่วมเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในการสร้างคุณค่าที่ยั่งยืนให้แก่ชุมชนและสิ่งแวดล้อมในพื้นที่เชิงยุทธศาสตร์สำคัญอย่างเกาะสมุย สายการบินฯ พร้อมเดินหน้าสานต่อกิจกรรมด้านสิ่งแวดล้อมอย่างต่อเนื่อง เพื่อให้ทุกเที่ยวบินและทุกการเดินทางเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการขับเคลื่อนสังคมและโลกสู่ความยั่งยืนร่วมกัน
