The redeveloped Hanimaadhoo International Airport marks a major milestone in Maldives’ infrastructure and tourism growth with its scheduled reopening in late 2025. The stunning new terminal is on course to be unveiled at yearend, elevating the gateway to one of the world’s top tourism destinations.

Led by India’s JMC Projects, the upgrade features a manta ray-shaped terminal, a 2.46-kilometre runway, utility buildings, a fuel farm, an airport jetty and a seaplane terminal. The two-storey terminal separates domestic operations on the ground floor from international services above.

The new runway is also wide enough to accommodate larger aircraft, paving the way for direct international flights. Designed to handle 1.3 million passengers annually, this US$136.6 million project will boost connectivity and support northern Maldives’ expanding tourism sector.
