Land of Elephants
Luang Prabang
Every year, one province in Laos celebrates its ancient bond with the gentle giants that shaped its heritage. Each February, Xayaboury honours these majestic creatures and their role in local culture and conservation through its vibrant Elephant Festival.
Here, two hours southwest of Luang Prabang, visitors get the rare opportunity to witness centuries-old traditions up close while supporting efforts to protect and preserve elephants.
Now in its 19th year, the festival will feature lively parades, spiritual ceremonies and cultural performances by various ethnic groups. Concerts, competitions and demonstrations of elephant care and training elevate the experience, making it one of the most meaningful and spectacular showcases of Laos heritage.
