Angkor Photo Festival
Revelling in Rice
Luang Prabang

Like elsewhere in Southeast Asia, rice is cherished as a symbol of life and prosperity in Luang Prabang. The Boun Khoun Khao festival, held every January, is a vibrant celebration of fertility, honouring the spirit of the land in the hope of a successful rice harvest.

Highlighted by religious ceremonies at temples across the city, this festival features blessings, offerings and rituals dedicated to the life-giving grain. Adding to the fun are parades showcasing paddy and milled rice, cultural performances, sporting events and trade fairs.
