Season of Quiet Faith
Thailand | 29-30 Jul 2026
Two of Thailand’s most sacred days fall in quick succession this year, bringing 48 hours of sacred ritual and ceremonies. Asalha Bucha Day (July 29), commemorating Buddha’s first sermon, is marked with candlelight processions (Wian Thian) at temples across the country. Ceremonies at Bangkok’s Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha Temple) and Wat Benchamabophit (Marble Temple) draw large crowds of locals and visitors alike.
The following day (July 30) marks the start of Buddhist Lent (Khao Phansa), when monks retreat to their temples for three months. Many Thai laymen choose this period to enter the monkhood temporily, marked by merit-making rituals in temple courtyards. Flower markets overflow with blooms and the streets feel unusually calm. Stop by at any Buddhist temple nationwide for a few moments of quiet reflection.
