Soak in the vibrant energy of Hong Kong’s annual Tin Hau festival, which celebrates the birthday of Tin Hau – the Goddess of the Sea and patron saint of fishermen. On the 23rd day of the third lunar month, locals flock to more than 60 Tin Hau temples across the city to pray for good weather and bountiful catches in the year ahead. Large temples in places like Yau Ma Tei and Cha Kwo Ling mark the festival with colourful parades, lion dances, floats and mouthwatering street food.

Tin Hau festival offers travellers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Hong Kong’s rich maritime heritage, while experiencing the joy and camaraderie of one of the city’s most significant cultural celebrations. May 23-27; discoverhongkong.com
