Bathing in the First Light
Krabi
Roughly 70 kilometres from mainland Krabi, the east coast of Koh Lanta boasts one of Thailand’s natural wonders: a vast labyrinth of mangrove forests and tidal channels. Hidden within this sanctuary is Tung Yee Peng, an award-winning Muslim eco-village pioneering community-based tourism in this watery wonderland.
The village is famous for a unique attraction: Aab Arun, or “dawn-light bathing”. Visitors board restored wooden Pok Chun boats at first light. Propelled by the silent sweep of oars, they drift effortlessly as the first rays of sunrise filter through the trees, stirring a chorus of morning birdsong as the forest slowly awakens.
